Albert Bierstadt Bio

Born in Germany, Albert Bierstadt came to America as a young child. In 1853 Albert Bierstadt returned to Germany to study painting at Dusseldorf Akademie. After returning to the United States, Albert Bierstadt went on an expedition out west in 1858. Returning to his studio in New York, Albert Bierstadt had captured many sketches of the rugged western mountains. It is ironic that someone who lived in New York became famous because of his paintings of California and the Colorado Rockies. Perhaps this is no accident. People who live out west sometimes take the mountains for granted as they get used to them. Albert Bierstadt was able to appreciate the natural beauty of the mountains since he was not exposed to them his whole life. Some of my favorite western paintings are as follows:
"Mirror Lake, Yosemite Valley" by Albert Bierstadt
"Mt. Whitney" by Albert Bierstadt
"The Oregon Trail" by Albert Bierstadt
"Sierra Nevada in California" by Albert Bierstadt
"Sunset in the Rockies" by Albert Bierstadt
"Sacramento River Valley" by Albert Bierstadt
"Lake Tahoe California 1867" by Albert Bierstadt
"Kings River Canyon, California" by Albert Bierstadt
"Sunrise, Yosemite Valley, 1870" by Albert Bierstadt
"Seal Rock" by Albert Bierstadt
