California Poster Locations

There are many world famous posters from Southern California. The J. Paul Getty Museum is a tremendous research for art and architecture. There are many posters available from this famous resource. We also have photos from the Getty Center which can be seen by going to the home page on www.LAPhotos.com and then navigating to the Getty Center section. Downtown LA is a popular location for posters because the skyline is impressive. Los Angeles is also home to the Lakers (NBA Champs 2001, 2002, 2003) , Clippers, Dodgers, Angels (MLB Champs 2003), Kings, Mighty Ducks, UCLA Bruins and USC Trojans. Southern California has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and they can be seen in a number of posters. There are also many beautiful posters from Catalina Island in Southern California.



California Sports Posters

Pro football is a big part of California. The San Franciso Forty Niners have won quite a few superbowls with players like Joe Montana, Jerry Rice and Ronnie Lot. The Los Angeles Rams made a superbowl appearance when they lost to Terry Bradshaw and the Steelers. After moving to St. Louis, the Rams were able to obtain a superbowl victory. The Oakland Raiders are popular all over the state of California. This is partly because they moved from Oakland down to Los Angeles and back to Oakland. As a result of having both Oakland and Los Angeles as their home towns, the Raiders have a large fan base. They also have their share of superbowl history. Their teams coached by John Madden are often mentioned when Madden covers current games. The San Diego Chargers have put together some good teams over the years. San Diego was chosen as the site for the 2003 superbowl. The Rose Bowl in Pasadena has also been used to host the superbowl. I was fortunate to watch superbowl XXVII in person at the Rose Bowl in 1993. Superbowl 27 was especially exciting for me since I was a big fan of Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin. The Dallas Cowboys defeated the Buffalo Bills in that superbowl on January 31. It was a beautiful day and even the half time ceremony was exciting as Michael Jackson performed.

There are quite a few pro basketball posters available for California Teams. Winning championships in 2000, 2001 and 2002 under head coach Phil Jackson, the Los Angeles Lakers have all kinds of great posters featuring Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant. The LA Lakers also have older posters with players like Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The Golden State Warriors represent the San Francisco Bay Area well as they are a franchise with a great deal of history. The Warriors gave the Lakers fits when they had great players like Tim Hardaway, Mitch Richmond and Chris Mullin. These 3 players became known as "TMC" in 1990-1991 as they scored over 70 points a game between the 3 of them. Latrell Sprewell made his start with the Golden State Warriors as a rookie in 1992-1993. The Sacramento Kings went from a good team to a great team when they got players like CWeb and Bibby. They missed going to the NBA Finals by one game in the 2001-2002 season when they lost to the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals in 7 games. The Los Angeles Clippers have played in the shadow of the Los Angeles Lakers for a long time. They always seem to have a lot of young talent but they do not have the same tradition as the Lakers.

Pro baseball has been kind to the state of California. The Anaheim Angels won their first world series in the 2001-2002 season agains the San Francisco Giants. The series was good for California that year because California would have had a winner regardless of which team won. The 1989 World Series featured 2 California teams. The San Francisco Giants faced off against the Oakland Athletics. Game 3 of the series at Candlestick Park was postponed as a major earthquake hit the Bay Area just as the game was about to start. The Oakland As ended up winning the World Series that year 4 games to none. In 1998 the Dodgers won the World Series behind the arm of Orel Hershiser and the heroics of Kirk Gibson.

California has 4 of the 10 colleges that make up the Pacific 10 conference in the UCLA Bruins, the USC Trojans, the California Golden Bears and the Stanford Cardinal. All 4 colleges have had a great deal of success both academically and athletically. UCLA won NCAA basketball championships under coach John Wooden in 1964, 1965, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973 and 1975. The University of California Los Angeles Bruins also won the NCAA basketball championship in 1995 under coach Jim Harrick. Some of the most famous NBA players like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Reggie Miller and Baron Davis went to UCLA. Californi Berkley has also produced many NBA greats like Jason Kidd. The 4 California colleges have also brought us great NFL football players like Troy Aikman (UCLA), John Elway (Stanford) and Ronnie Lott (USC).

California Vacation Posters

California is one of the biggest states in America. Many would argue that it is also one of the most beautiful. Yosemite Park is well known for Halfdome and other natural wonders that make for excellent posters. The San Francisco Bay Area Bridge is an architectual marvel and it makes for an outstanding poster. The skylines of San Francisco and Los Angeles are stunning when captured on film. The coast of California is impressive and there are many California Ocean posters from San Diego in the South up to the Oregon border on the North.

California Image Books


Art Wolfe has many wonderful pictures from the state of California. These artistic pictures make a great addition to the coffe table or photography collection of any home. The book, (ISBN: 157061279X or 1-57061-279-X), has a wide range of pictures from many different California landscapes.

Ansel Adams did a fantastic job of showing America beautiful images from the state of California. His book, (ISBN: 0821223690 or 0-82122-369-0), displays many images from California including Half Dome, El Capitan and the Yosemite Valley.
