Newport Beach and The Wedge
Newport Beach has many attractions to offer. One of the most exciting and dangerous places to attack waves in Southern California is the Wedge in Newport Beach. Every year ambulances rush to the area with their sirens on to rescue swimmers, bodysurfers or surfers who get in over their head. The peninsula side of the jetty runs at an angle to the beach such that waves can come from 2 different directions and smash together when they break. Some waves run perpendicular to the jetty while others run perpendicular to the shore. When they hit each other they can combine into one huge wave that offers adventure seekers more than they can handle.
